Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Friends for Matibi takes the protection of your data seriously. This policy explains which personal data we process through this website, why, and what rights you have. We comply with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Freunde für Matibi (Friends for Matibi association)

Contact for data protection: Oliver Müller, President

2. What data we process

Visiting the website. When you open the site, our hosting provider processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system. This is needed to run and secure the site. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.

Contact form and email. Name, email address, subject and your message. We use them to answer your enquiry.

Newsletter. Your email address, to send you news about our projects. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the newsletter or by writing to info@matibi.org.

Membership. First and last name, email address, phone number and postal address. We need these to manage memberships, invoice the annual fee and invite you to the general meeting.

Interest in a Nook learning cycle. Full name, phone number, date of birth, village or area, your motivation and – optionally – your email address. The Friends for Matibi Trust team in Zimbabwe uses this to contact you about the next learning cycle and allocate places. If you are under 18, please register with the consent of a parent or guardian.

Donations. Online donations are processed by RaiseNow (see section 4). RaiseNow passes on the details you enter there: usually name, address, email address, amount, purpose and payment method, but no full card details. For bank transfers we see the details on our bank statement. We use this data for accounting, to thank you and to issue donation receipts.

Stories and pictures. We publish reports, quotes and pictures of learners, staff and partners only with their consent, and for minors with the consent of a parent or guardian. Consent can be withdrawn at any time; we will then remove the content.

3. Cookies and local storage

We do not set our own cookies for analytics or advertising. The site stores your language choice locally in your browser. Our hosting provider may set a technically necessary cookie that routes your session. Embedded services (section 4) may set their own cookies once their content loads.

YouTube. We embed videos in privacy-enhanced mode using youtube-nocookie.com. Once the embedded player loads, your IP address and technical browser data are transmitted to YouTube/Google, even if you have not started playback. Privacy-enhanced mode does not prevent this connection. During playback, further data may be processed and cookies or similar storage technologies may be used. More information: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

When maps load or you follow external links, these providers learn your IP address. Within our organisation, only people who need the data for their role have access: the board in Switzerland and the Friends for Matibi Trust team in Zimbabwe. We do not sell data or pass it on for advertising.

5. Transfers abroad

Our hosting provider, Mailchimp and some embedded services process data in the USA. Learning-cycle registrations are handled by our team in Zimbabwe. These countries do not offer a level of data protection equivalent to Switzerland's. We rely on recognised safeguards (such as the providers' standard contractual clauses or their certification under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) or on the transfer being necessary to handle your enquiry or registration.

6. Retention

  • Contact enquiries: until resolved, at most 2 years.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Membership data: during membership and for 2 years afterwards.
  • Expressions of interest in learning cycles: until the cycle concerned has ended, at most 2 years; for participants, during participation and for alumni support.
  • Donation and accounting data: 10 years (statutory retention period).

7. Your rights

You may request access to your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to processing, withdraw consent and request a copy of your data. Write to info@matibi.org; we reply within 30 days. You may also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, www.edoeb.admin.ch) or, if you live in the EU, the supervisory authority of your country of residence.

8. Security

The website is transmitted in encrypted form (HTTPS). Access to form data is restricted to authorised persons.

9. Changes

We update this policy when the website or the law changes. The version published here applies.
