Skills Into Livelihoods: Nook Hub in Action

At the heart of rural innovation in Mwenezi, Zimbabwe, the Matibi Nook Hub continues to transform learning into practical opportunity. Learners are actively engaged in hands-on, skills-based projects equipping them with entrepreneurial tools and real-world experience.

Building the Future Through Metal Fabrication

In the Metal Fabrication workshop, learners are turning raw steel into functional and market-ready products. Current projects include:

  • ▸Window and door frames
  • ▸Security gates
  • ▸Farming implements
  • ▸Custom-designed household furniture

Students are learning welding techniques, measuring and drafting skills, metal cutting, grinding, and finishing. Beyond technical skills, they are also trained in costing, pricing, and client service — preparing them to start their own fabrication businesses or secure employment in construction and manufacturing.

Every spark from the welding torch represents both skill development and future income potential.

Empowering Creativity in Makeup and Beauty

The Makeup and Beauty learners are developing professional skills in:

  • ▸Bridal and event makeup
  • ▸Everyday beauty techniques
  • ▸Skincare treatments
  • ▸Hair styling and grooming

Students practice on live models and collaborate on themed beauty projects to build their portfolios. The program teaches not only technique, but also hygiene standards, client consultation, and small business management. With the beauty industry growing across Zimbabwe, these learners are empowered to start mobile beauty services, open salons, or offer event-based services within their communities.

From Oven to Opportunity: Bakery and Culinary Arts

The Bakery and Culinary Arts department is filled with energy and delicious aromas. Learners are working on:

  • ▸Bread and pastry production
  • ▸Cake baking and decoration
  • ▸Traditional and modern meal preparation
  • ▸Catering and food presentation

Students are mastering recipe formulation, food safety standards, portion control, and cost management. Their baked goods and prepared meals are not just classroom exercises — they are potential income-generating products for local markets and events. By combining culinary creativity with entrepreneurship training, learners are positioned to launch bakeries, catering services, or food production cooperatives.

Skills That Create Sustainable Livelihoods

At Matibi Nook, learning is intentional and community-focused. Each project is designed to address local economic needs while empowering young people with practical, marketable skills. As learners continue to build, create, and produce, they are not only shaping products — they are shaping their futures and the future of the Matibi community.
