The mobile caravan kitchen at Matibi Nook is now launched and in use. Memory and Kesani are putting their culinary skills into practice in a space where they can offer their services and build their own businesses.
Their journey began during the ninth Nook Learning Cycle. The two learners developed skills in cooking, food preparation and baking. They took cakes, muffins and samosas to local community markets, where they sold out. When the learning cycle ended, their determination to keep using those skills remained.
That determination inspired the Nook Lead to consider an important question: how could learners without the resources to start a business put their skills to work after training? The Matibi Nook team wanted to help bridge the gap between learning and earning.
The Matibi Nook Business Accelerator supports that transition. With the support of Friends for Matibi, the team has brought the mobile caravan kitchen into use. It gives Memory and Kesani a practical space to prepare food, offer their services and take the next steps in building their businesses.
For the Matibi Nook team, this launch is a first step towards sustainable livelihoods, greater independence and entrepreneurship. It creates an opportunity to build on what Memory and Kesani have learned. Long-term financial independence is a goal to work towards, not an outcome already achieved.
The Matibi Nook team thanks Friends for Matibi for supporting this step from learning to earning.
The earlier announcement, Introducing Our Mobile Kitchen Caravan, published on 27 July 2026, explains how the initiative began.
